Privacy Policy

Gadaa Source ("we", "our", "the app") is a community platform celebrating Oromo cultural heritage, economic opportunity, and community connection. This page explains what information we collect, why, and how it is protected.
The short version: we only collect what is needed to run your account and let you participate in the community — nothing more. We do not use advertising trackers, analytics scripts, or sell your information to anyone.
What We Collect
When you create an account, we collect:
- Email address — used to sign you in and send password reset links
- Username and full name — shown on your profile and posts
- Password — securely encrypted by Firebase Authentication; we never see or store it in plain text
When you use the app, we may also store:
- Profile bio — only if you choose to write one
- Community posts, comments, and likes — content you choose to share
- Photos — only if you choose to attach one to a post
- Job listings — if you submit a job posting, including your contact email
- Contribution records — if you support an economic opportunity, we record the amount and project (no payment card details are stored by us)
What We Do Not Collect
- No advertising trackers or third-party analytics (we do not use Google Analytics, Facebook Pixel, or similar tools)
- No location tracking
- No browsing history outside this app
- No selling or sharing of your data with advertisers or data brokers
Where Your Data Is Stored
Your data is stored securely using Google Firebase, a cloud platform with industry-standard encryption and security. Access to your data is controlled by security rules that only allow you to read and edit your own account information, and only allow public content (like posts and cultural information) to be viewed by others.
How Your Data Is Used
- To let you sign in and use your account
- To display your username, posts, and profile to other community members
- To send you a password reset email if you request one
- To let us review and approve job listings before they go live
We do not use your data for advertising, and we do not send marketing emails unless you explicitly opt in to a newsletter in the future.
Your Rights
- You can edit or delete your bio and posts at any time from within the app
- You can request full deletion of your account and associated data by contacting us (see below)
- You can request a copy of the data we hold about you
Children's Privacy
Gadaa Source is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.
Changes to This Policy
If this policy changes, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of the app after changes means you accept the updated policy.
